Winter Proof Your Warehouse
A warehouse can perform as an integral part of your retail operation or storage and can be the core of your business. If winter months hit hard, then it can lead to major disruption if the cold impacts your warehouse.
Here are it’s Fleet Insurance’s top tips for avoiding a winter business disaster.
1. Insulate wisely
Pay attention to doors and windows and areas which lose the most heat. Investing in weather stripping kits and double glazing might sound expensive now but you will reap the rewards in the future and importantly, save you money in the long run.
2. Repair fixtures and fittings
Keep a close eye on any fixtures and fittings that could deteriorate in colder months. Fixing them now and preventing replacement will be worth it for your time and money.

3. Pay attention to pipes
Leaky pipes and blocked pipes may not sound like a huge issue but if left they will continue to leak and perhaps in extreme circumstance, cause flooding. Even without a flood, the escaping water may freeze in colder months and eventually thaw which may result in unwanted cracks appearing! By insulation pipes, you’ll be able to steer clear of huge pipe issues.
4. Protect staff outside
You may be liable for employment disputes for falls, slips and trips if they are a consequence of something that could have been avoided. If snow is predicted, invest in grit to help prevent any slip accidents in entrances and car parks. Keeping the areas well-lit will also be a good action to make sure staff can visibly see where they are going!
5. Protect staff inside
Maintaining a comfortable and stable temperature inside should help to prevent staff illness such as coughs and flu.
6. Check your fleet
Unpredictable conditions can have an impact on vehicles whether specific for the warehouse or for on the road. Regular servicing will help keep malfunctions at bay whilst weather appropriate tyres may also be handy.
